A long way to go on civil rights
Headline: Christian group can’t bar gays, get funding.
Politically, the 5-4 split isn’t a surprise, except maybe in that the 5-4 split was on the side of moral sense and common sense regarding anti-discrimination policies involving gays and lesbians.
The 5-4 split is a clear surprise in light of moral and common sense on the issue. Seriously, what sense does it make to continue systematizing discrimination in the sexual-orientation arena?
Aside from the political, that is. Just sayin’ – there are plenty enough people out there motivated by hate to act out politically.
Which is why our public policies on GLBT civil rights are still held hostage.
Shame on those who allow hatred to rule them – and on those of us who allow the hatred to cow us into silence when the question is called.
